Soter Technologies announced the launch of VideoRedact for Education, a cross-platform, automated video redaction software package designed to solve the many challenges associated with protecting the privacy and identities of students in schools across the Unites States.

This cutting-edge platform works with virtually all video management systems (VMS) and software. With its easy-to-use interface, the VideoRedact for Education platform transforms what was once an expensive, complex and slow process into one that is easy, fast and cost effective. With cutting-edge Automated Video Redaction (AVR), a privacy-driven process that once took hours now takes only minutes. Video redaction is the process of blurring or obscuring of students faces, bodies and personal items on video and images.

"At Soter Technologies our mission in education is to protect students and school environments. In our conversations with school administrators, we learned that they continue to face many challenges including bullying, drug use, vaping, smoking, vandalism, fighting and other incidents in schools. Schools must investigate these incidents and often law enforcement and parents become involved. For these investigations, and to comply with state and federal laws, administrators must have surveillance video redacted before providing it to law enforcement or when used for internal investigations. This is an expensive process and thousands of hours are being spent redacting the faces and identities of students and others from surveillance videos. This is why we developed and are now offering our easy to use VideoRedact for Education," said Derek Peterson, CEO of Soter Technologies.

Soter Technologies' VideoRedact for Education takes an innovative approach to the Automated Video Redaction process. The powerful cloud-based software improves the ability to work with high-movement, low-light conditions and low-resolution videos which are typical of most surveillance footage. With advanced facial recognition, individuals are identified and quickly verified. The system allows for multi-subject, multi-object content protection which includes blurring and simple audio muting. Identified individuals and personal property can also be tracked.

VideoRedact for Education is affordable, has extensive features, uses an easy-to-use interface, works with virtually all VMS and video surveillance software, and drastically reduces non-automated redaction turnaround time and cost. The platform gives schools instant, accessible control over their digital assets. With VideoRedact for Education, schools can easily remain in compliance with state and federal laws as well as with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requiring schools to provide to parents video and other content that contain student images.
