Philips Hue introduces two new products for the TV
Smart lighting maker Philips Hue has announced two new products, which are designed to be placed near a TV or screen to enhance the home entertainment experience.
Smart lighting maker Philips Hue has announced two new products, which are designed to be placed near a TV or screen to enhance the home entertainment experience.

The first product is called the Philips Hue Play, a 9-inch light bar to be placed in the back of TV, underneath a cabinet or on the floor. The second product, the Philips Hue Signe, is a thin and vertical fixture with a table-standing version and a floor lamp version.

In the dark, a displaying screen looks like a picture, due to the stark contrast between the screen and its surrounding color. With a light around the TV, the colors from the screen may be extended onto the wall, rendering a new kind of home entertainment experience.

Besides choosing the light color by themselves, homeowners can also use the Philips Hue Entertainment software, which syns the Hue lights with whatever users play on their computers.

Like other Philips Hue products, homeowners will be able to control the two new products using the Hue mobile app or voice control, via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri.

The Play has black and white body colors. A single unit and a power supply (like a laptop battery) will cost US$70; a base kit with two units, two base stands and a power supply will cost US$130.

The table-stand version of Signe will cost US$160 and the tall floor version will cost US$250. It comes with a standard plug rather than a power supply.

Philips Hue recently unveiled several new products, including outdoor fixtures, light strips and a smart mirror. They will arrive at the market this fall.
