Amazon has sold more than one million smart home devices on Prime Day, the e-commerce giant’s annual discount event. Bestsellers worldwide on were reportedly the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and the Echo Dot.

Ring, the smart doorbell company acquired by Amazon earlier this year, had its biggest sales day on Amazon on July 16. Ring Video Doorbell Pro was sold out.

Seventeen countries in total had access to Prime Day sales. Prime Day 2018 collected more sales than it did in the previous year, as well as sales collected on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The Echo Dot, Amazon’s most affordable smart speaker device, was the top seller on Prime Day for the past two years.

Amazon lists the top three bestsellers in each country in a press release. In the smart home category, Osmart Zigbee Smart Plug is listed in four countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Belgium; and the Philips Hue Lighting is listed in four countries: U.K., Belgium, the Netherlands and Australia.

Many smart home devices had big price cuts on Prime Day. The Echo Dot was for sold for US$30, down from US$50, the Echo Plus went from US$150 to US$100, the ecobee3 Smart Thermostat & 3 Room Sensors were priced at US$199, down from the original US$289, the Amazon Cloud Cam was cut from US$130 to US$60, and the Blink Indoor Home Security Camera (2-pack) were sold for US$100 rather than US$170.

Amazon Alexa supports the most smart home devices in the market with its 30,000-plus skills. As such, Amazon holds the data in regards to which smart home devices are more popular in terms of Alexa usage. The company can then promote products accordingly on the sales day.

There are over 100 million paid Prime members worldwide. Small and medium-sized businesses selling on Amazon collected more than US$1 billion in sales on Prime Day this year, says Amazon.

Amazon didn’t provide the number on how many Echo devices or Ring cameras were sold. It only said that overall more than one million smart home devices were sold on Prime Day this year.
