Semiconductor company Cypress has introduced a new generation of chip which is claimed to bring greater battery efficiency on IoT devices and can cut power consumption by up to 80%.
The new processor, CYW43012, is built on a 28-nanometer manufacturing process, while many processors today are built on the 40-nanometer process. With this improvement, power consumption can be reduced by 70% in the receive mode, 80% in the sleep mode and 25% in the transmit mode, according to Cypress.
In regards to connectivity, CYW43012 supports 802.11a/b/g/n and 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which helps to further improve power efficiency.
