A new startup called Noon Home has introduced a DIY smart light switch which features a small OLED touchscreen in the middle, so that users may adjust lighting in a modern, elegant manner, by tapping on the switch.

The Noon lighting system comes with two parts – extension switch and room director switch. The former switch works like a regular light switch while the latter makes all the smart actions happen. As such, interested buyers may need to get one room director switch per room.

The room director is designed with a small OLED touchscreen in the middle, which displays the current setup and allows users to adjust lighting via tapping. Users can use the room director to change lighting scenes. They can also swipe the screen to get entertainment, movie or relaxing scenes in the pre-setting. It connects with other extension switches with Bluetooth and links to mobile app via Wi-Fi.

Noon Home said it takes much effort for smart homeowners to change light bulbs so that they may enjoy a modern lifestyle. This is the reason its team created the product to make everything easier, by simply changing light switches.

Noon Home’s technology enables the devices to read the types of existing light bulbs. The system automatically creates three layered light scenes: Relax, Everyday and Bright. Users can certainly set up more lighting scenes in the mobile app. For example, a Night Light setting will turn lights on automatically while someone walks by the room director switch.

Support for Amazon Alexa voice control is said to be released soon, according to Noon Home. The Noon Smart Lighting Starter Kit, which includes one room director and two extensions, costs US$400. An additional room director costs US$200. It’s now available at the company’s website and select Best Buy stores, and it will arrive at select Home Depot stores on November 15.
