TP-Link introduces outdoor camera and smart plug for its Kasa brand
TP-Link has added two new products to its smart home brand Kasa’s portfolio – an weather-resistant outdoor home security camera and a Wi-Fi smart plug with dual outlets.
TP-Link has added two new products to its smart home brand Kasa’s portfolio – an weather-resistant outdoor home security camera and a Wi-Fi smart plug with dual outlets.

The Kasa Cam Outdoor is a ball-shaped Wi-Fi camera featuring night vision of 30 feet, 1080p video recording, two-way audio and an onboard siren. When users see live feeds on the Kasa Smart app, they will be able to zoom in on a subject to see clearly whether there is an intruder.

It has software features. With Activity Zones, users can set up an area for motion detection and ignore motions outside the area. With Motion Duration Detection, users can track or ignore micro-second events like bugs flying and leaves falling.

TP-Link offers a 10-foot cord connecting the camera’s USB power adapter to an outdoor outlet. When the camera’s bracket is mounted to the wall, the device body can be rotated inside the bracket’s magnetic socket to provide the best monitoring coverage. The company plans to further provide a 15-foot extension cord at US$19.99.

The Kasa Smart Cloud, a cloud storage to store recorded videos, offers two days of storage for free, for up to three cameras. For customers who need more storage space, 14-day and 30-day subscription plans with analyzing capability are available.

The camera supports screen displays via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant-supported devices, like the Fire TV and Google Chromecast.

The TP-Link HS107 Wi-Fi smart plug uses one wall outlet to power itself, while providing two output plots which can empower two devices. It works with the Kasa Smart app allowing users to control the device remotely and to create scenes and schedules to trigger a series automation actions.

The smart plug works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Microsoft Cortana and IFTTT.

The Kasa Cam Outdoor will cost US$140 and the Wi-Fi smart plug for US$40. They will start shipping at the end of August.

TP-Link introduced its first Kasa product, an indoor security camera, in September 2017. Besides the two new products, the product line now includes Wi-Fi bulbs, Wi-Fi switches, indoor cameras, routers and range extenders.

“Kasa Smart has become a dependable smart home brand with a growing portfolio of quality products, providing a variety of app-enabled solutions that give you remote control of your home from anywhere,” said David Li, CEO of TP-Link Research America Corp, in a press release.
