Homelife offers several features, which are actually provided by other smart home providers. Its Indoor and Outdoor Homelife HD camera enables live video viewing and motion-activated recordings; it sends notifications to homeowners’ phones and lets them know when their kids arrive from school; homeowners can control smart lightings, smart door locks and thermostats from one single mobile app; and the service provides professional installation and onboard education by local technicians.
With existing customer base from the cable service, Cox Communications is likely to see homeowners who prefer having the same TV and smart home service provider opt in.
Comcast and Verizon similarly have the same advantage as they push smart home services and related hardware products at the same time.
Cox tested its home automation services first in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last year, and then extended to San Diego and Rhode Island regions. The roll-out this time will be nationwide in coming months.
The company see two trends in the smart home market – a well-established and growing home security market, and an emerging market that looks for smart home living but doesn’t seek 24/7 security monitoring.
“Offering more choices in the Cox Homelife portfolio enables us to expand our reach beyond the homes that are buying home security today and establishes an umbrella for future expansion into every home,” said Kristine Faulkner, senior vice president of Cox Homelife, in a statement.
Alongside Homelife Automation, the company also offers Homelife Automation & Security with 24/7 professionally monitoring for those who want to have more security for their homes.
