Smart speaker and smart TV most interesting to IFA 2018 visitors

German Trade Office Taipei and IFA Berlin today together hosted an industry conference in Taipei, discussing latest consumer electronic and home appliance trends, and what to expect at IFA 2018. Audio facilities, televisions with embedded AI, as well as connected smart appliances that provide convenient home experience are three major keys in the 2018 domestic electronic markets.

According to GfK research, there are around 7178 smart products selling in the market in 2018. Among all types of home appliances, audio market has been growing constantly since 2012. Leading industry players such as Amazon, Apple, Deutsche Telekom, Google, and Xiaomi have launched their AI smart speakers with sharp audio technology within these years, bringing voice ecosystems into individual households and creating different home experience.

TV markets is expected to recover in 2018, generating 3% growth of global TV sales units. Specific regions like Vietnam and Eastern Europe are showing strong TV sales, and the 2018 football world cup this summer will also push market demand in Q2. Reasons behind the growth of TV demands is contributed to a better quality and integration of AI.

“Global smart device market is driven by innovations that make consumers’ everyday life easier. In many regions, consumers are now accepting appliances with better performance and higher price, and Asia has been especially a rising star in the last ten years for domestic appliances,” analyzed Alexander Dehmel, Senior Regional Market Insights Manager from GfK. “The segment growth of smart products is always related to the convenience, premium, and higher efficiency that they can bring to users.”

Mentioning the market opportunities in IoT, communication technologies, AI, cloud and edge computing, and IoT security are big topics. With great variety of IoT application areas, NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, Sigfox, and 5G communication are said to be the technologies that worth great attention.

“Integrating AI into IoT networks is now a prerequisite for successful business. As all the industries are collecting data from end-users, how to turn data into practical information for better business strategies is what really make a difference,” said Roger Huang, Deputy Director of Digitimes Research.

And as people are looking forward to seeing major industry players bringing innovations and brand new possibilities for home environment, IFA will showcase various business ecosystems with great diversity of smart home products.

“As every country in Europe has different cultural background and user habits, every channel are targeting different sectors of smart home. However, when it comes down to consumer behavior, they are ready to adopt more connected smart home electronics. And we believe after the data protection policies are all settled, smart home security systems will be more interesting for consumers,” shared Dirk Koslowski, Global Senior Executive Manager of IFA.
