Chinese tech firm Huawei has introduced GigaHome, a new solution for home network operators, designed to provide a better smart home service experience.

Networks operators, which provide home Internet access to users, play an important role in the smart home market. As connected devices grow in a house, the need for a faster home Internet service also rises.

Some operators might upgrade their networks, but face some challenges such as the complexity and variability of internal home networking, to provide rapid response and fault location and the difficulty to integrate various connected devices and services.

Huawei’s solution focuses on home gateways and offers flexible home Wi-Fi extension through media including CAT5 lines, power lines and wireless repeaters. The ultimate goal of the offering is to help operators provide a more intuitive and smooth smart home experience for the clients.

The company says the solution is able to provide smart home coverage with a Wi-Fi speed up to 300Mbps. Therefore, home gateways can offer gigabit Wi-Fi access by using technologies such as Wi-Fi hardware forwarding, 802.11ac, dual-band or 4×4 MIMO.

The company’s cloud platform will also provide open integration architectures so that operators will be able to quickly integrate new services and introduce them to the customers.

The solution includes high-quality video services as well supporting home security devices.

Huawei has invested much effort in the IoT and related fields, including networks and smart home. It owns an open source smart home operating system called HiLink, builds IoT networks worldwide with various partners, develops smart home devices with Midea Group and other partners, and plans to launch a smartphone with Amazon Alexa built-in soon.

“Huawei’s home network solution provides a full Wi-Fi coverage, and a good performance home network infrastructure, operable and manageable cloud-based management platform and open ecological system to enhance the home network experience, operational efficiency and bring new value-added services to operators,” said Jeff Wang, the president at Access Network of Huawei, in an announcement.
