Smart home security company August Home has added integration with Wink, a smart home hub producer. Users who own August’s Smart Lock will be able to remotely open their doors via the Wink app.

August already works with Apple’s HomeKit, allowing users to control its products via the Home app. It also works with Alexa, making voice-control possible for the smart lock. Besides these two platforms, there are many others in the industry. Wink is one of them, and the most recent being added to the August Home support list.

The integration between August and Wink means that smart lock owners will be able to lock and unlock their doors remotely, monitor their locks and receive alerts via the Wink app.

In the Wink app, users may add August devices in shortcuts and robots to create a control scene. For example, a “go to work” shortcut will trigger lights to turn off, adjust the thermostat and lock the front door.

August Smart Lock owners don’t need a Wink Hub or Wink Hub 2 to take advantage of this integration. Instead, they will need a remote control-enabled gadget ‘August Connect’ to make this work.

After the two devices are installed, simply open the Wink app, add a new product, select the August Lock and sign in to their August account, users will be able to enjoy the new feature.

August Smart Lock users can still control the device via the August app. The integration with Wink just gives them the capability to do a broader range of smart home setups.

In addition to Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and the just added Wink, August Smart Lock also works with IFTTT and Nest.

Wink Hub speaks various communication languages to connect with home devices, including Bluetooth, Kidde, Clear Connect, Z-Wave and ZigBee.
