Google Home adds support to Honeywell’s Lyric thermostat lineup

Google Home adds support to Honeywell’s Lyric thermostat lineup

Google’s smart speaker has supported the Nest thermostat from the very beginning, and now it welcomes Honeywell Lyric, another popular thermostat brand, to join its support list.

The update will make the entire Lyric lineup of thermostats compatible with Google Home and Google Assistant, including Lyric Round, Lyric T5 and Lyric T6 Pro.

This is not the first announcement made by Google and Honeywell. Back in January, Google said it would release support to Honeywell’s Total Connect Comfort thermostat model.

The latest announcement, however, made Honeywell the only thermostat brand to support all major smart home platforms, including Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s HomeKit, Samsung’s SmartThings and IFTTT, claimed Honeywell.

The new integration allows for both specific and general commands. Users can say “Ok Google, set the temperature to 72 degrees” or simply say “Ok Google, make the temperature cooler.”

Complete control over one or more HVAC zones is also allowed. As long as users have individually connected thermostats for each zone, they can specify status for each zone in the Google Home setting and ask the smart speaker to adjust the temperature.

To set it up, users need to connect their Honeywell accounts with Google Assistant in the Assistant UI.

In its announcement, Honeywell points out that users don’t need to be constrained to one specific platform by using its thermostats. This is also why Honeywell has been actively promoting its IoT Partner Program.

“Now with our Google Home integration, we’re thrilled to have the first thermostats integrated with every major smart hub. It is another way we are helping consumers more easily bring smart technology into their homes and lives, regardless of how they want to get started, their home’s unique needs or which smart hub they have,” said Scott Harkins, the vice president of the IoT Partner Programs at Honeywell Connected Home.
