Smart lock maker Schlage announced that Alexa users can now unlock Sense and Connect devices via voice commands. This new feature is disabled by default for security reasons, however.
Schlage device owners will need to first open their Alexa app and create a unique PIN code to enable this feature.
Every time they want to ask Alexa to unlock the door lock, they have to say the PIN code. If the number of failed voice attempts exceeds three times, the control capability to unlock Schlage locks will immediately be disabled.
Schlage announced its first Alexa support last year. However, users could only use their voice to lock the door and check the status. Now, they can further unlock the door using their voices.
However, to enable Alexa features on a Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt, users are required to have a Schlage Sense Wi-Fi adaptor. With the device, they can also unlock the devices via their smartphones.
As for Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt owners, they need to have a Samsung SmartThings or Wink hub to enable Schlage to work with Alexa.
In addition to Amazon Alexa, Schlage smart locks also support Apple Siri and Google Assistant.
