Besides supporting voice-control platforms Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, Leviton is now supporting automation controlling layer IFTTT for its smart lighting devices, the company announced.
Besides supporting voice-control platforms Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, Leviton is now supporting automation controlling layer IFTTT for its smart lighting devices, the company announced.
IFTTT will function as a connecting bridge between Leviton’s smart lighting products and other smart home gadgets. For instance, users can make Leviton turn on the light when a Arlo security camera detects motion, or turn off the light when the Nest cam is switched to the Away mode.
Users can go to IFTTT’s website, find existing applets for their smart home devices, and then connect them to trigger automatic control moves. For those who know how to code, they may even publish their own applets for their own or other people’s use.
Back in May, IFTTT introduced the Maker program, allowing individual developers to build and publish applets for free. Developers in the Maker program can build any applets that work with multiple actions as well as any supported services or devices. For example, an applet that triggers the garage door to open when a BMW car pulls up at the driveway.
Any individual developers can create their applets and put them on users’ public profiles, allowing anyone to download. IFTTT partners will also be able to feature applets built by makers on their own webpages soon.
There are currently over 500 service partners on the IFTTT platform, including gadget makers like Nest, Philips Hue and Netgear, and companies across industries like BMW, Domino’s, Twitter, Instagram, Adobe, Dropbox and Spotify.
There are already some applets on the Leviton page, like one which turns on the Leviton light when Domino’s pizza is out for delivery.
Although Leviton makes a range of smart home products, currently only its Decora Smart Wi-Fi light switch and plug have the IFTTT upgrade.
