Taiwan's electronics manufacturing giant Pegatron Corp is set to increase its capital investments in the development of smart home applications, notably in areas such as voice control and activation for connected devices, reports said earlier this week.

Pegatron, one of the assemblers for Apple Inc's iPhone, said in a statement that the market for the Internet-of-Things, big data, and cloud computing technologies are expected to multiply tenfold in the coming years.

Following years of contract manufacturing for home automation provider Nest Labs, Pegatron chairman Tung Tsu-hsien revealed that the popularity of the Nest thermostat over the years has helped culminate other smart device makers to integrate their solutions with the Nest service, a company that was eventually acquired by Internet giant Google Inc. in 2014.

Even leading home electronics suppliers Philips, Whirlpool, and LG have shown their positive outlook of the Google-Nest acquisition, Tung was quoted as saying in a report published by The Economic Daily News, citing that this has led them to churn out their own series of devices that Work with Nest

Smart home and preschool education markets are new areas of investment for the company, Tung added.
