Amazon debuts new-gen Ring Stick Up Cam

Amazon, which acquired smart doorbell brand Ring, revealed the new Stick Up Cam with wired and battery versions at the last week’s event to showcase all new Echo devices. The new Cam features IPX5 waterproof rating, 1080p HD video recording, motion detection, activity zones, night vision and two-way audio.
 
The Stick Up Cam Wired needs to be charged via a micro-USB power supply, while the Stick Up Cam Battery works wirelessly with the battery. Ring says the rechargeable battery lasts for six months to one year, depending on the usage.
 
The previous version of Stick Up Cam, which Ring introduced back in 2016, was designed to be an outdoor camera supporting 720p video recording. It also has an optional solar panel to power the camera.
 
The updated version, in addition to better specs, will integrate with Ring’s new Alarm security system and Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa. For instance, if something triggers the Ring Alarm system, the Stick Up Cam will automatically start recording; and when Ring Alarm is disarmed, the Stick Up Cam will stop recording and detecting motions.
 
Alexa users can simply say “Alexa, show me the living room” to call up the Stick Up Cam live feed. Or they can ask for something particular like “Alexa, show me the latest event from my backyard.”
 
Since Ring never really released an indoor camera before, the Stick Up Cam will be the first device to work with Ring Alarm, to take care of indoor home safety.
 
Ring Alarm, introduced back in June, has already worked with Ring’s video doorbell and Floodlight and Spotlight Cam. When these devices detect unusual activities, the alarm will be turned on and users will receive alerts on their mobile devices.
 
The Stick Up Cam Wired and Battery will both cost US$179.99. The Wired version will start shipping on October 18 while the Battery version in December, available in the UK, the U.S., France, Germany and Australia.
