Challenge
The Granite Club, Canada’s premier family, social, recreation and athletic club, wanted to be sure that only club members, staff and authorized visitors would be able to access its state-of-the-art facilities. In addition, the Club features extensive childcare facilities, and therefore sought the highest level of security to ensure the safety and well-being of club members’ children. At the same time, the club is known throughout Canada for providing the highest level of member-focused service, so it was important to preserve freedom of movement for members and staff; in-your-face security measures would greatly interfere with the enjoyable club atmosphere.
Additionally, in a high-use, active community where health and hygienic best practices are very important to club operations, an ideal facility access solution would not require the user to touch anything, swipe a card, carry a fob or punch in a code on a keypad.
Solution
The Granite Club installed FST Biometrics' IMID Access (In Motion Identification) solution in various access points throughout the club. This comprehensive system enables the more than 10,000 members and staff to freely enter and exit restricted areas of the facility, which includes a world-class athletic center, five-star dining and meeting facilities and a children’s center. The Granite Club cited the “frictionless” (touch-free) nature of IMID Access as a key reason for selecting the solution. This aspect of the system, while certainly convenient, is particularly useful from a hygienic standpoint. In addition to the core goal of protecting access to specific areas within the club, the IMID Access system has been deployed in the children’s center in order to provide the highest level of protection and security for members’ children. To help launch the IMID Access system, FST provided orientation to Granite Club reception and security staff, explaining the new system and providing presentations on the enrollment process to make it as simple as possible.
