The Førde Central Hospital is part of Helse Vest, an organization consisting of 5 main hospital units in Western Norway. The general hospital faced security and accessibility challenges in their parking facility. A combination of multiple Nedap systems and inPark software offers a complete solution for patient parking, prioritized access and vehicle identification. The result: accurate parking management and easy access for patients.

General hospital

Førde Central Hospital is a general hospital situated in the Vie neighborhood for Førde, Norway. With 1300 employees, it is the main facility is a part of Helse Vest, an organization consisting of 5 main hospital units in Western Norway.

Mobile access control

To provide patients with easy access to the facility, Nedap’s MACE was implemented. The MACE MM QR reader offers mobile access control using Bluetooth, NFC or QR codes. In this installation, the hospital chose to use QR codes. These codes provide patients with access to a parking area. To make the facility easy accessible, this specific parking area is used for patients only. In the future, the QR codes will be used for other purposed in the Førde Central Hospital as well.

License plate recognition

In addition, frequent patients can have their license plate registered in the system and have automatic access when they use the validated vehicle. Nedap’s ANPR Access is used for this target group.

Nedap’s ANPR system offers long-range identification by capturing a vehicle’s license plate up to distances of 3 (10 ft.) - 10 meters (33 ft.). It is specifically designed for vehicle access applications where RFID tags cannot be issued. Automatic license plate recognition is the perfect solution for applications where vehicles need to be granted access temporarily or incidentally.

Prioritized access for blood-donors

To provide blood-donors with free and easy parking, a third system is developed. When blood-donors come to the hospital to give blood, they have their own parking lots. These lots are provided with SENSIT sensors. Nedap’s SENSIT consists of in-ground parking sensors with infrared and magnetic technology that detect in whether or not a parking bay is occupied. Thanks to this smart parking solution, the real-time occupancy status of all individual parking spaces in this specific parking facility of the hospital can be monitored. A validating panel showing the status of each lot. When a blood-donor announces their presence at the donor reception, they are guided to the nearest available parking lot. No ticket, mobile or other verification is needed for the blood-donor. Thanks to this solution, the important blood-donors get prioritized access without the use of tickets, mobile phones or other verification methods.

The fourth Nedap system used at the general hospital is MOOV. This vehicle access controller is used for statistics and for manual controlling the barriers from the main reception. MOOV also provides scheduled rules for access, with free access in periods with low traffic. In the future, MOOV will be integrated with the hospital booking system to provide access and individual identification.

Innovative reference project

“Our goal is to make this a reference project for smart detection and identification of vehicles in health care facilities. While already providing easy access, this project will continue to be developed even further in 2018. Nedap has provided outstanding support along the way,” says Rune Viken of inPark AS.

Easy access for prioritized users

“The solution from inPark AS solves our challenges and makes the parking facilities easy accessible for our prioritized users. Our goal is to integrate the parking solution in a wider identification solution as well,” says Eivind Petter Nicolai Standnes at Førde Central Hospital.
