Veridos wins Zambian eID card project

Veridos wins Zambian eID card project
The Republic of Zambia has awarded Veridos with a contract to deliver polycarbonate electronic ID cards to Zambia.
The Republic of Zambia has awarded Veridos with a contract to deliver polycarbonate electronic ID cards to Zambia. The new eID card, which is equipped with a contactless chip, fulfils the highest quality standards and offers convenient multi-application options to Zambian citizens.

“We are pleased to provide the Republic of Zambia with new state-of-the-art eID cards”, says Veridos CEO Hans Wolfgang Kunz. “Zambia’s citizens will profit from a contactless ID card infrastructure that offers various application options, including convenient access to eGovernment services, for example.”

Following the German eID card approach, widely considered the most sophisticated identity solution in the world, there is a contactless security chip embedded in the new ID card. Based on the German eID concept – a pure contactless card which supports multiple applications for biometric identification, authentication, and digital signature services – relevant international standards including X.509 certificates for secure authentication are applied. Biometric information is stored on the card using state-of-the-art protection protocols to protect and restrict access to sensitive personal data.

“The eID cards are made of polycarbonate. The material guarantees robustness and high durability“, explains Thomas Morian, Vice President Sales Africa. “Following the delivery of national passports and passports for the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, this is the third project that we are implementing for the Republic of Zambia, a reflection of our continuous and valued partnership.”
