ISS' automated solutions enhance traffic safety

ISS' automated solutions enhance traffic safety
Intelligent Security Systems (ISS) has become known the world over for its advanced and highly intelligent software based traffic solutions.

Background

The Agência de Transporte do Estado de São Paulo (ARTESP), the regulatory agency that oversees public transportation in the State of São Paulo; Brazil manages almost 4,000 miles of highways for a population of 20 million across 271 cities. The need for automated solutions for tolls, vehicle weights, and overall traffic safety has grown as the population and, correspondingly, traffic has increased through the years. As one of the busiest and most important economic centers in Brazil, it is key that the highways of São Paulo function as efficiently as possible.

Why ISS

Intelligent Security Systems (ISS) has become known the world over for its advanced and highly intelligent software based traffic solutions. As leaders in both video management services (VMS) and video analytics, ISS has become a one-stop shop for clients who need a combination of solutions such as VMS, license plate recognition (LPR), facial recognition, traffic counting, incident reporting, as well as video surveillance systems linked to toll and weight systems.

The solution

Using ISS solutions, ARTESP opened the Information Control Center designed to help ensure the quality of service provided by local operators of the state’s highways. The center unifies traffic data, incident management, and service delivery through the use of SecurOS solutions, including advancedanalytics, u sing the SecurOS traffic solution software system from ISS.

The new system, built on SecurOS traffic solutions, and which also benefited from consulting expertise from IBM and IBM Business Partner Magna Sistemas Magna Sistemas, is based in the state transportation agency’s headquarters in São Paulo. The new center captures, links and unifies data from Operational Control Centers of each of the 19 highway administrators that operate nearly 30 state roads. The combined solutions help the agency improve supervision of approximately 4,000 miles of state highways, something previously done only through physical inspections. The information collected includes notification of incidents and traffic problems, weight issues with vehicles through integration with third party sensors, and integration with toll booths, where camera software keeps track of license plates and fees paid.

The results

“The Information Control Center for the state oversees São Paulo´s highways in near real time. With SecurOS technology in place we now have the right tools to check quality of services provided by each administrator and also the corresponding contract fulfillment,” said ARTESP general director, Karla Bertocco Trindade. “This kind of insightful data adds to the comfort and safety for our citizens and extends the quality of the highways in our state.”
