ETELM tackles remote and harsh environments with latest 4G linked Picocell base station
ETELM, manufacturer of advanced mission critical communications systems, has announced the launch of its new Picocell LTE base station, which is the latest offering in its 4G Linked portfolio.
ETELM, manufacturer of advanced mission critical communications systems, has announced the launch of its new Picocell LTE base station, which is the latest offering in its 4G Linked portfolio.

Complementing and fully interoperable with the other products of the family including; LTE Macrocell, TETRA and DMR, as well as other technologies such as WIFI, the new Picocell is part of ETELM’s fully integrated networks solution and has been specifically designed for use in harsh environments and small cell applications. The Picocell is an ideal solution for the energy industry, particularly the nuclear, oil, and gas sectors, and for critical transport infrastructures like rail, metro and airports where reliable communications are key.

“Within environments where there is the possibility of interference and physical exposure to severe conditions, the need for reliable communications for essential services is crucial,” said Pierre Minot, President of ETELM. “Our new Picocell addresses the needs of those operating within such environments and is the perfect solution for LTE coverage in confined areas and localized networks.”

The Picocell base station runs Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) in the 700MHz, 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands and benefits from the expertise that ETELM has accumulated over the past 35 years designing and manufacturing radio communication infrastructure base stations.

Minot continued, “The Picocell is fully compliant with 3GPP/ETSI Release 13, which is focused on mission critical LTE enhancements. In addition, the low power consumption of the Picocell base station allows for Power over Ethernet (PoE) - ideal for operations in remote and volatile locations where there may be outages or unreliable power supply sources.”

The first deployments of the Picocell base station will begin before the summer.
