Le Touquet-Paris-Plage upgrades public video surveillance with VDG Security

In 2009, the town of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage installed its first security cameras in public areas, making prevention and urban safety a priority and also integrating the control inputs and outputs of the town. Five years later the outcomes show a success. Based on these results, the town wanted to extend and modernize its video protection system, both in public areas as the major roads to create a safer and more civilized environment.

Centralized supervision

Besides equipping the town with nearly 30 high-definition IP cameras, the main focus was on setting up the Urban Supervision Center (CSU). The town has many major annual events, increasing the town’s population from 5,000 to up to 100,000 in the high-season events. Managing the prevention of incidents and protection of the people is then essential. The CSU has been equipped with VDG Sense to be able to view the live images during the day and night, supervised by a team of highly-skilled operators. Nicolas Lemaître, Municipal Agent and Head of CSU: “We first tested the system when the Tour de France started in our town on July 8, 2014. It was a great success!”

Quicker response times for emergency services

The installation of VDG Sense at the CSU has enabled a quicker response time for the Operational Command Post (PCO), which centralizes all emergency services, such as the police, fire and ambulant care. Through a fiber-optic connection, the image feeds are displayed at the PCO. VDG Sense is tailored to operate fully in line with the operational requirements, thanks to its great flexibility.

Scalability and flexibility

The most challenging aspect of the project was to have scalability of the video security system, without having to resort to a complete overhaul of the system and drive the costs up too high. VDG Sense is scalable and can operate with virtually every camera and third party hardware through its extensive API. This scalability and the flexibility is why Le Touquet-Paris-Plage chose VDG Sense.
