HID Global, partner recognized for solution that has improved the lives of Angolan citizens
HID Global, a worldwide leader in secure identity solutions, has announced that Government Security News (GSN) Magazine has recognized the company and its integration partner, DGM Sistemas LDA (DGM) for the Most Notable National ID Card Program in its second annual Airport, Seaport and Border Security Awards competition.

Helping to reach and improve the lives of 6.5 million of Angola’s more than 24 million citizens, HID Global and DGM collaborated on a critical proof-of-identity infrastructure that has enabled the country to fully restore social services and other citizen programs over the past decade since it concluded nearly 25 years of civil war. The award program salutes the great accomplishments of technology companies, government agencies, scientists and executives, transportation and law enforcement agencies and the many others whose combined efforts keep citizens safe and secure on land, sea and at borders.

“We are honored to receive this award, and to share it with our long-time partner DGM,” said Rob Haslam, vice president, Government ID Solutions with HID Global. “We are also humbled by the government of Angola’s accomplishments with this solution.

"They’ve used it to steadily re-build the fabric of their economy while providing the legal cornerstones of identity that ensures citizens can receive the services they need to dramatically improve their daily lives.”

HID Global and DGM partnered with the Angolan Government’s Ministry of Justice to implement an “over the counter” process in which each citizen is now securely issued an ID in less than an hour, either at established centers or via mobile units that are deployed to remote areas. Storing both personal and biometric identification, each national ID card uses HID Global’s optical security media (OSM) technology to prevent counterfeiting and obstruct tampering while facilitating quick and accurate authentication in the field. HID Global supplies the program’s ID cards as well as a decentralized personalization solution that includes hundreds of secure ID card printer/encoder systems. The company also has established a center with DGM in Luanda, Angola, for ongoing technology service and support.

“HID Global and DGM are the first winners in this new category, and their contribution to the Angolan National ID Program was really one of the shining stars of this year’s awards -- we consider it to be among the top five entries across the entire competition,” said Adrian Courtenay, chairman of World Business Media, LLC, the company that publishes Government Security News. “GSN makes a special effort each year to update our awards program to highlight the newest and most important technologies making the biggest impact on the market. One of these new categories was the Most Notable National ID Program, and the Angolan program really exemplifies what we were trying to showcase.”

The company was also honored with a GSN Magazine award in 2010 for its contribution to the next-generation United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Green Card in the “Most Effective Border Security Program” category.
