As school shooting incidents have been soaring in recent years, school administrators are paying more attention to campus security system upgrades. Among all the solutions, upgrading out-dated analog CCTV surveillance systems to more e¬ffective high resolution surveillance has been a priority.

HD-SDI was the only megapixel surveillance solution that utilized traditional analog coaxial cabling infrastructure, until ccHDtv was introduced to the security market. Since the introduction of megapixel IP cameras to the security market, coaxial cable was considered too outdated to support such high quality images. Therefore, customers spent a lot of money to have their analog infrastructure taken out and replaced with network cable, this work often requiring a significant investment of time and resources.

One of the drawbacks for HD-SDI and IP systems was the cable-run distance limitation, as these technologies cannot exceed cable lengths of 100 meters. Considering that analog CCTV cables can be installed on longer distances of cabling, this caused problems and extra costs for many school campuses that required cameras to be installed further away.

Stardot Technologies, one of the leading manufacturers of IP, ccHDtv cameras and video encoders in the United States, has successfully provided ccHDtv cameras allowed a school surveillance system to be upgraded and without replacing the existing coaxial cables. This upgrade was performed in the administration building of Alta Loma School District in California, U.S., in Dec, 2013. In this project 12 SDHM200BN Day/Night ccHDtv cameras and 3 SDHMSRV4 ccHDtv channel receivers were deployed along with a 16-CH ExacqVision NVR.

The school administrators at Alto Loma School District believe that ccHDtv was the right choice once they had considered the cost and resources required for upgrading surveillance system and installing new cabling. Using ccHDtv cameras allowed the school district to upgrade their surveillance system without having to spend a significant amount of their annual budget. Alto Loma School District now has a high quality surveillance system with more effective megapixel cameras. The school district is planning on installing ccHDtv throughout the other eight elementary schools and junior high schools in the Alto Loma School District in the coming years.
