Fiji container harbor adopted ALCON wireless transimission devices

Fiji container harbor adopted ALCON wireless transimission devices
The administration of container harbor needs a wireless surveillance system to monitor the traffic of all containerships.

Requirements and challenges:
The administration of container harbor needs a wireless surveillance system to monitor the traffic of all containerships.

The challenge was the NLOS (non-line-of-sight) issue in this environment as the ships and containers move around from time to time. This is a critical situation for all wireless connections that using WiFi technology. In real practice, getting a LOS (line-of-sight) environment is the first thing when we talk about wireless transmission — no matter for data, voice or streaming video. It affects the wireless performance greatly and sometimes even causes disconnection.

So, how to get the connection back in seconds and automatically?

Solution:
ALCON ALINK-5801a has two unique mechanisms: the auto-reconnection and auto-reboot. Not only the wireless operation mode (* Bridge mode) helps reconnection, but also by detecting the status of the connected device. Wireless Bridge mode is the action taken by network equipment to create an aggregate network from either two or more communication networks. Bridging is distinct from routing which allows the networks to communicate independently as separate networks.

ALINK-5801a will auto-reboot when the system stop responding due to too many error packages caused by NLOS. These two functions make the wireless connection back to work in just a few seconds after the ships or containers block the wireless path and cause disconnection.

Another highlight of ALINK-5801a is its industrial level enclosure. It is a die-casting, made of aluminum alloy enclosure which passed SST (Salt Spray Test). It provides a perfect protection to against the sea wind.

Performance and feedback:
With the success wireless transmission experience at the airport, the system integrator is able to propose a similar solution to the authority of Fiji container harbor, giving them live video streaming to monitor and to dispatch those ships.
