The PHV MAC is a front door security camera that retrofits onto any peephole-equipped door. While video door phones have been all the rage in recent years, many homes simply do not need features like two-way audio, real-time monitoring and Internet connectivity. Brinno's vision for the product is that people will use it similar to an answering machine—flip through the recordings to see who has been at the door while they were gone. The camera also eliminates the need to squint through the peephole, since there is now a sizable LCD display fitted on it.
The MAC200 is a portable security camera is compact enough that users can lull it around and tie it to objects. It also does not have Internet connectivity or record audio. With its no-hassle installation and prolonged battery life, Brinno thinks it can complement existing security systems or be used where power simply is not available.
With only core features that cater to a specific audience, Brinno was able to develop battery-powered cameras that last for up to a year on a set of batteries. The PHV MAC and MAC200 both record 6-second time-lapse video on an SD card when motion is detected. Users can choose from multiple frame rates, ranging from 1 fps to 30 fps. 4 AA batteries will keep the PHV MAC going for around 9,000 activations; the MAC200 runs on 2 D cell batteries, which will keep it powered for up to 14 months.
