Madrid-Barajas Airport is Spain's largest airport; it is also the busiest, with more than 50 million passengers a year passing through its gates on their way to both domestic and international destinations. Moreover, Madrid-Barajas is the main gateway for flights between Europe and Latin America.
Situated in an excellent geographical location, its capacity has doubled since 2006. With the addition of the new Terminal T4, Madrid-Barajas Airport has secured its position as a leader in worldwide air traffic. Furthermore, thanks to the expansion of its airport, Madrid is becoming an increasingly important international hub for economics, finance and business, not to mention conventions and events.
Business Objective:
The CGA (Centro de Gestión Aeroportuario - Airport Coordination and Management Center), located in T4, is the coordination center for the entire airport; this is where surveillance and the CCTV system are managed, among other things.
With regard to the video surveillance system in particular, AENA needed a flexible solution that was capable of integrating all the existing systems while offering sufficient capacity to manage the huge increase in traffic anticipated in the new and existing terminals.
This project therefore represented an enormous challenge considering the huge surface area, the number of buildings to monitor and the amount of programmed equipment involved.
Solution:
Bosch's system was the perfect solution for the airport, thanks to the large capacity of the 8 Allegiant Matrix Switcher, providing distributed architecture and ease of integration, combined with the high quality offered by both the fixed (approximately 500 Dinion) and PTZ (approximately 500 AutoDome) cameras.
The global management system consists of various matrix switchers, each with a capacity of over 4000 inputs and 500 outputs, more than 3000 cameras distributed across all four terminals and, at peak times, more than 10,000 accesses an hour. Integrating all of these elements was not a simple job, but the high quality and reliability of Bosch Security Systems products made it significantly easier.
Result:
Thanks to the Bosch system installed at the site, more than 80 operators now have direct access to all images of the airport. They receive information from different door accesses and manage the graphic environment. They have immediate, efficient and reliable access to the tools needed to control and manage airport security, making their jobs a lot easier.
If the system ever needs expanding Bosch equipment is designed in such a way that new technology can be fully integrated with any existing components meaning that new solutions can be put in place quickly without affecting either passengers or the operator.
