Chilean cultural center counts on IP for audience impact measurements
Founded in September 2010, the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center in Santiago, Chile deployed two IP cameras with people-counting software to help keep trck of visitors at its visual arts rooms. The public facility covers 2.2 hectares (22,000 square meters or 5.4 acres) of land, and includes 10 presentation rooms, two seminar rooms, two visual arts rooms, a recording studio and a library. Local system integrator Metrics Chile installed two ultra-discreet Axis Communications HD domes in the arts rooms.

Founded in September 2010, the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM) in Santiago, Chile deployed two IP cameras with people counting software to help keep track of visitors at its visual arts rooms.

Paula Vergara, Study Coordinator of GAM, stated it was easier to keep track of visitor flows in the show rooms, where tickets were sold for theater, dance or music functions. However, it was much more difficult in areas that were freely accessible, and with complex access control, such as the visual arts rooms. It was also important for the center to determine greatest visitor flows during the day to determine when to station more reinforcements, to schedule guided tours of visual arts and determine on which day of the week the most visits occur in order to organize the staff.

The ultra-discreet dome was chosen for both show rooms, which have sophisticated dark and underground conditions. The camera was designed for placement near building entrances to strengthen security and prevent losses outside stores, restaurants, hotels, banks and offices. In addition, it is vandal-proof and can detect tampering attempts, such as blocking or spray-painting.

From the monitoring center, it is possible to access live or recorded images, which measures the programming spaces in the two exhibition halls and also has a reliable instrument that can provide specific indicators. Vergara noted that the advantages of the system include visible performance measurements and detailed information by any time period.
