Irish university library opts for wireless authentication
The National University of Ireland in Maynooth, with more than 8,800 students, has secured the new extension to the John Paul II Library with RFID access control system supplied by SALTO Systems. Salto’s local distributor in Ireland, Doorware, installed the system in the 6,200 square meters building on the south campus that is linked to the existing library to create a total of more than 10,000 square meters of library space.

The National University of Ireland in Maynooth, with more than 8,800 students, has secured the new extension to the John Paul II Library with RFID access control system supplied by SALTO Systems. Salto's local distributor in Ireland, Doorware, installed the system in the 6,200 square meters building on the south campus that is linked to the existing library to create a total of more than 10,000 square meters of library space.

To handle building entry and exit security, the university fitted turnstiles, internal and external doors with the new system. “We fitted a range of RFID products from SALTO's networked electronic lock range including electronic handle sets in a smart and practical stainless steel finish, as well as double sided units, gateways, controllers, readers and keypads.” commented, Stephen Foley, Manager at Doorware.

“The access control systems smart ID cards build up 'on-card' audit trails giving the university access control and the ability to see who accessed what door, where and when,” said Foley. “Cards can be programmed to allow access to specific rooms or areas within the library for selected periods only, with the doors auto locking at pre-specified times if required.” In addition, if card security is breached due to loss or theft, it can be instantly deleted without the need of rekeying or changing locks, which saves the university time and money.
