Russian landmark integrates surveillance and emergency management
The Gorky Park of Culture and Leisure, a major tourist attraction in the Russian capital, is protecting its premises with an integrated security system based on Axxonsoft software, which manages 200 surveillance cameras, 16 emergency call boxes and a control room. According to Alexey Melnikov, Correspondent for Russia TV Center, city government officials are confident that the technology is effective and economic. Criminal investigations are made easier, as authorities can view events from archived footage, which “gives us a leg up in maintaining order,” said Viktor Paukov, Head of the Interior Affairs Administration for the Central Administrative District of Moscow.

Aside from assisting law enforcement, the cameras make stealing park property much more difficult, while making bike and rollerblade rentals easier. Sergey Kapkov, Director of the Department of Culture for Moscow, pointed out that the cameras can help track visitor movement, and the chips embedded in rental items allow visitors to rent a bike at the entrance and return it at another gate.

According to the TV Center, all of Moscow's parks will be equipped with such security systems soon. These systems are part of the overall Information City state program, which was designed to enable authorities to react and make fast emergency responses. “Whether it is an altercation or incident that requires bringing in the Emergency Situations Ministry, water utilities or another agency, people can immediately know about [potential threat and] hazards in any section of the park," said Alexey Mayorov, Director of the Department of Regional Safety for Moscow.
