DigitalPersona announced the appointment of Richard Agostinelli to the position of president and chief executive officer. Agostinelli is chartered with guiding the organization through its next phase of growth. He will also hold a position on the company's board of directors. Fabio Righi, the company's previous CEO, will serve as a board advisor.

“DigitalPersona was founded with the vision to make biometrics secure, affordable and convenient for individuals and businesses,” said Vance Bjorn, co-founder and chief technology officer at DigitalPersona. “Passwords have become the weakest link in digital security and identity, so the need for an alternative has never been greater, especially in markets such as healthcare, retail and banking. With several years of solid growth and profits, we have laid a good foundation for our products to lead this next generation of user authentication and identity. I look forward to working closely with Rich and the rest of the leadership team as we move into this exciting next stage of our evolution.”

Agostinelli joins DigitalPersona from L-1 Identity Solutions, a publicly traded company, where he served as president of the biometrics division until its acquisition by Sagem Morpho in 2011. During his tenure at L-1, Agostinelli was responsible for integrating the products and people from several acquired businesses specializing in biometric technologies (face, fingerprint, and iris) and product lines (physical access, enterprise logical access, mobile ID terminals). He was instrumental in transforming the organization from a biometric product supplier to a leading provider of end-to-end multimodal biometric solutions, which included hardware, software and services, to businesses and governments around the world. Prior to this role, he served as the chief financial officer (CFO) at Identix, as well as CFO and chief operating officer at SecuriMetrics, a pioneer in mobile ID terminals.
