Mobotix Keeps Watch over Football Stadiums in Qatar, France, Ukraine and Germany
Whether it's the national football league, the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the European Championship or the World Championship, when the football rolls across the green stadium grass, the pulses of the fans start to race. In order to provide security also to the crowds of cheering fans with emotions running high, many international football stadiums are turning to intelligent surveillance technology. These video systems are an absolute necessity when it comes to making a reliable assessment of the situation at hand and coordinating the efforts of security and emergency services.

MOBOTIX manufactures video solutions for these types of applications. The Fritz-Walter Stadium in Kaiserslautern was equipped with cutting-edge surveillance systems already back in 2006 at the FIFA World Cup in Germany. 77 MOBOTIX cameras were installed to provide the necessary security for everyone in the stadium.

The issue of security in football stadiums has been receiving an increasing amount of attention at venues around the world. In the desert landscape of Qatar, where the FIFA World Cup is to be held in 2022, four of the already completed or renovated stadiums have been equipped with around 600 IP cameras from MOBOTIX. The Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, home of the Paris Saint-Germain Club, also uses MOBOTIX cameras. Even the operator of the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, Ukraine, which will be hosting a number of games as part of the European Championship in 2012, relies on high-resolution, network-based video technology from MOBOTIX. Here, 560 cameras provide safety during the preliminary games, one quarterfinal and one semifinal game. “We want our visitors to feel safe here and enjoy their stay. This is why we only use cutting-edge security technology,” says stadium manager Oleksandr Atamanenko.

The MOBOTIX system offers a decentralized storage solution in which image processing and event control take place inside the camera. This not only dramatically reduces the load on the network, but it also allows users to do everything simultaneously: live video transfer, recording and event search. The control software used to manage MOBOTIX cameras is available free of charge and supports the decentralized recording technology, which requires only a tenth of the number of servers needed for traditional solutions. The MOBOTIX solution is ideally suited for large venues such as stadiums because fewer cameras and servers are needed than in other similar systems, the system is low-maintenance, easy to install and operate and saves money compared to other video solutions.
