The explosive detection systems are the first in India to utilize the advanced imaging capabilities of computed tomography (CT) technology for aviation security. This technology not only helps to ensure the security of travelers but also has a low false alarm rate, allowing screeners to positively identify threats while expeditiously examining all baggage.
The new terminal's construction, a project led by GMR Infrastructure Limited, a company of the GMR group, will expand the operational capacity of Indira Gandhi International Airport, which already serves as a primary gateway to India with nearly 34 million passengers arriving and departing each year. The new facility has the capacity to handle 12,800 bags per hour, and the systems will play an integral role in maintaining passenger safety while also increasing efficiency in the baggage screening process.

Four detection systems are installed as inline components of the terminal's baggage handling system while the remaining two are installed as standalone machines.
