SRK Exports uses Security Center Omnicast to secure thousands of carats of diamond and manage over 1,100 IP cameras across three locations.
Few people know that 92% of the world's diamonds are cut and polished in the city of Surat, India. Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK) is the leading diamond manufacturer in the region. The company processes more than 720 thousand carats of rough diamonds annually and owns the world's largest and most progressive diamond processing facility. The company also has two headquarter buildings in Mumbai as well as another older factory in Surat.
The challenge
Protecting diamonds valued from thousands to millions of dollars from internal theft or loss requires thorough security. As SRK expanded operations, they began looking for a more scalable IP video solution. Its existing IP video system could only support 40-50 cameras per server. This meant that SRK would either need to spend more money on servers or upgrade the video software to achieve greater flexibility and network efficiency. They chose the latter.

“Our floor managers are always on the move. So when incidents happen, they are able to do a little bit of investigation from their iPad to identify issues” said Mr. Dholakia.

Built-in reliability tools
The Health Monitoring feature keeps the SRK team up to speed on possible vulnerabilities. The system automatically logs health events and notifies them to any hardware failures.
Future operational perks
SRK wants to integrate Security Center with an RFID diamond tracking system. This will help them track real-time locations of diamonds and receive alarms if they move outside zones.
Shreyans Dholakia, Director of Shree Ramkrishna Exports, said "We were able to keep our existing infrastructure and get over 100 cameras per server. So in terms of scalability, it was an excellent solution."
Results
Today, SRK is using the Security Center Omnicast IP video surveillance system to manage over 1100 IP cameras across three locations. Using the Multicast feature of Security Center, SRK maximized their infrastructure investments. Now, many users can view a video feed simultaneously without overcrowding the network or overloading the servers because the Multicast feature uses the bandwidth of each network segment only once.
SRK’s IT team has also found Security Center to be extremely reliable and very easy to maintain. According to Mr. Dholakia, “Two of IT administrators underwent authorized Genetec training. We feel we have really mastered our system and remain in control of regular maintenance. Even without any new updates, we can easily manage and maintain our system for a few years.”
