Hanwha Vision marks new milestone as a global vision solution provider
Soon-hong Ahn, President and CEO of Hanwha Vision, discusses the company’s latest rebranding effort, which reflects its transformation into a global vision solutions provider.
In March, Hanwha Techwin made headlines by announcing its name change to Hanwha Vision, heralding the company’s expansion into the vision solutions business. Over the years, Hanwha Vision has emerged as a major security player, selling a range of IP cameras, NVRs and other video surveillance offerings. Through this expansion, Hanwha Vision aims to go beyond video surveillance to provide next-generation vision solutions that integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud technologies, delivering insights into customers’ business operations while driving global market innovation.

Already, the company has exhibited under the new name at two recent major security trade shows, namely “ISC West 2023” and “SECON 2023,” taking place simultaneously in the U.S. and Korea from March 29–31. The company showcased customer- and region-specific solutions at the exhibitions to great success. Overwhelming crowds at the Hanwha Vision booth speak volumes of the enthusiasm and interest the attendees had towards the name change, as well as the vision-based products/solutions being offered.

“By adding innovation to our core competitiveness in vision technologies, we will solve the problems faced by our customers and provide vision solutions that add new value,” said Soon-hong Ahn, President and CEO of Hanwha Vision. “As we expand our business from surveillance monitoring to data analysis, we will provide customized information through big data analytics and actionable solutions that not only prevent incidents but also respond to them in real time. Moreover, our vision solutions will be instrumental in advancing customer’s operational strategies.”

Along with the new name, Hanwha Vision unveiled its business strategy, which emphasized its leading core capabilities in vision solutions. Below, Ahn provides further insights into the rebranding and how Hanwha Vision’s new solutions can benefit users across a wide range of verticals.

asmag: What is the reason behind the name change to Hanwha Vision?
Ahn: Hanwha Techwin, the predecessor of Hanwha Vision, had grown into a global company with core competencies in world-class optical, System-on-a-Chip (SoC), and image processing technologies. In recent years, we continued to invest in areas that can serve as future growth engines, such as AI and the cloud. Our new mission is to leverage our vision technology with future growth engines to solve the pain points of customers in a variety of industries and provide vision solutions that can truly benefit and add new value to their business. We believe that the new company name, Hanwha Vision well represent our vision and new business direction.

asmag: Will the rebranding affect any of the products or services already offered?
Ahn: That should be the same. The rebranding represents our business expansion. Hanwha Vision will go beyond its surveillance-focused business and provide optimized solutions and services to customers by collecting diverse information based on vision technology and analyzing data through our platform. Whereas our previous business was based on the notion of surveillance, we will now deliver insights and improve operational proficiency across our customers’ entire business. Hanwha Vision will continue to provide optimized services to customers through our ecosystem with specialized companies in various industries beyond the domain of video surveillance.

asmag: What is the strength of Hanwha Vision’s solutions?
Ahn: Hanwha Vision has accumulated world-class technologies in optics, SoC, image processing, and analysis. Based on these technologies, we have the capability to build integrated surveillance solutions and our solid ecosystem allows us to provide services that utilize AI, the cloud, and our range of devices. In this era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, vision solutions are increasingly being used and are growing in importance among edge IoT devices. Therefore, our key strengths include being able to propose customized solutions and services to analyze and solve the pain points faced by customers across businesses regardless of industry, in addition to our global network and leading technical support system.

asmag: How are Hanwha Vision’s next-generation solutions different from its existing products?
Ahn: Our existing video surveillance products are focused on the concept of safety. However, our new range of vision solutions collects a range of information through access control, intrusion detection, IoT sensors, and existing video surveillance and delivers various insights and values beyond safety to customers. In other words, Hanwha Vision can propose solutions to problems that may arise across an entire business, including safety, efficiency, and operations.

asmag: What are the potential insights and use cases for new solutions and services that Hanwha Vision is planning to provide?
Ahn: We are looking to gradually roll out solutions targeting urban safety and traffic management for smart cities, process monitoring and productivity improvement for smart factories, and efficient store operations and revenue enhancement for smart retailers.
