Every single door will be given the utmost security and ultimate makeover with the new and beautiful Gallagher Controller 7000 Single Door (C7000 SD).
Supporting a distributed access control architecture, the sleek-looking C7000 SD is designed to operate as a standalone or to expand on the capabilities of existing Gallagher solutions, which are comprised of Gallagher 6000 controllers and the Command Centre software.
In such applications, the new controller allows an existing system to be expanded in a flexible and economical way, especially in cases where a full 6000 controller is unnecessary.
The power of expansion
The C7000 SD can further the benefits of a Gallagher security system by using existing structured cabling and network Power over Ethernet (PoE) + powering and UPS backup, lowering cost on security system installation. The device removes the need for power supplies, batteries, cabinets, and long expensive cable runs. It is designed to simply plug into the ethernet and sit discretely on the wall above the door or in the ceiling space.
However, it’s in the realm of expansion that the potential of the C7000 SD really unleashes. The unit can also handle downstream expansion devices connected via daisy chaining to its RS-485 port, and it supports multiple I/O board variants, allowing connection of huge numbers of inputs and outputs downstream. RS-485 means hundreds of devices can be connected to the C7000 SD. The option to run on blue cable confers additional advantages.
In some applications, the use case would involve selecting the PoE+ variant of the C7000 SD and running a single blue cable out to a gate, remote building, or turnstile. Importantly, the C7000 SD can happily co-exist in a system with 6000 controllers – it simply appears as another controller in Command Centre software and functions just as the existing controllers do.
With PoE+, installers need to adhere to the PoE standard, which means there’s 750mA to play with when it comes to powering several readers and electronic locks at the door. Applications like this can be supported by a battery, charged via PoE, which takes over if the network switch goes down for maintenance. With the POE+ variants, the battery charging circuit provides load testing and appropriate events or alarms in the system when the battery is low or unhealthy.

Small but mighty
While the Gallagher Controller 7000 Single Door is extremely capable, it is not a replacement for a 6000 controller. Instead, it is designed to fit in locations where PoE is used natively. This makes for a particularly cost-effective solution, allowing compact expansion using a very small enclosure, while retaining the ability to expand in other sorts of applications.
Such qualities make the C7000 SD especially adept when it comes to elevator control. This is because it can support many terminals and, being compact, can be installed in the elevator cars as well as lift control rooms. Other ideal use cases include locations where you need some monitoring or control – like roadside cabinets, ATM machines, and vehicles.
The Gallagher C7000 SD fills a gap in the market because of its flexibility, compact form, and lower cost. Nonetheless, it is also a seriously powerful piece of kit. It can handle four readers associated with a single door, can integrate sensors or handle monitoring and control via inputs/outputs, as well as managing lift control for many elevator cars and terminals.
