MediaCityUK selects Meyertech to deliver a unified security platform
Meyertech has collaborated with Peel L&P to deliver a unified security platform for MediaCityUK.
Meyertech has collaborated with Peel L&P to deliver a unified security platform for MediaCityUK. Home to the likes of the BBC, ITV, dock10, Ericsson, Huawei, Kellogg’s and complemented by more than 250 smaller tech and creative businesses.

MediaCityUK is a joint venture partnership between Peel L&P and Legal & General Capital. Peel L&P is an ambitious regeneration business established in 1971 and is responsible for some of the most transformational development projects in the UK today. The business owns and manages 12 million square feet of property and 20,000 acres of land and water, with a total portfolio value of £2.6 billion.

Located at Salford Quays, MediaCityUK is an international hub for technology, innovation and creativity. Since its completion in 2011, it has been protected by a combination of third party security systems (including CCTV, Access Control and Intruder Alarms) and security officers.

"The existing solution included standalone systems from Wavestore, Salto and Eaton, which were all proprietary. We needed a unified security system and a unified control room,” said Tony Chebrika, Head of Security for Peel L&P.

“MediaCityUK wanted an event driven solution that would make them aware of incidents within their buildings. Our goal was to provide a unified security solution, operating through a single user interface, which could control all of the systems on site,” said Richard Sumner, Director of Advanced Security Partners (ASP), tendered as an independent consultant and was chosen by Tony to procure and manage the project.

“Having searched the market to find a suitable interface supplier, Meyertech were the only company that were confident they could meet the requirements and move the project forward.”

Project overview

Following the initial discussions with Richard and Tony, Meyertech set out to deliver a unified security platform that would enable Peel L&P to manage all of their security systems across multiple sites.

Prior to Meyertech’s involvement, the solution at MediaCityUK was made up of numerous standalone systems, which included a Digital Recording solution from Wavestore, Access Control systems provided by Salto and Intruder Alarms provided by Eaton.

In order to create a cohesive solution, Meyertech collaborated with the existing system providers to develop integrations within its FUSION Video Management Software (VMS).

The FUSION platform now enables Peel L&P to manage their entire security system through a single interface, and allows users to access any camera from any connected Peel site. As a result the control room at MediaCityUK has become a security hub for Peel L&P, providing 24 hour monitoring for sites across the UK.

Result

Since the project was delivered in August 2019, it has already improved response times on site. This has been aided by a new video wall in the control room that can display up to 48 cameras simultaneously, enabling users to easily monitor all sites and co-ordinate security personnel.

The technology driven solution has also projected large financial savings, allowing Peel L&P to reallocate resources and reduce the number of security personnel required.
