Nice tackles complex security operations in Brazil

In the next few years, Brazil is preparing to host some of the world's largest sporting events, such as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. In order to put on these events, the country will also be looking to implement scalable security programs to ensure the protection of all athletes, visitors, and venues involved.

A recent study shows that several trends are shaping the Brazilian market, a few of which are:
* A move toward integrated security systems in high-end developments
* Growing interest in IP video
* A shift away from the traditional use of manual guarding and toward the use of electronic equipment

Integrated security, IP video, and technology-based response plans offer an important advantage in a successful security program, whether it involves safeguarding massive sporting events; protecting complex enterprise operations like those of financial institutions; or securing critical utilities and other government-level operations.

Think about the types of incidents that could unfold when tens of thousands of excitable fans are gathered at a football match – the stadium could become overcrowded and people could get injured or even trampled. In these cases, security teams must be able to act quickly and efficiently to disperse crowds and to respond if the situation becomes dangerous. Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) systems can play a central role in properly managing such large-scale situations.

By centralizing all security technologies and installations in a central control room, the operator on duty can receive all of the relevant information about what is happening at a specific location. This includes all of the video footage and input from other sensors.

Not only does the operator get the complete picture of the incident, he or she will also receive an emergency response plan based on which responders are located in the stadium vicinity. Various resources, including mobile apps, are often used to communicate with the people in the field. As well, from the control room, the operator can remotely trigger sensors and resources in the field – for example, he or she could open or close a specific gate, direct cameras and tracking systems to a particular point of interest, or use video analytics to gain further insight into the unfolding situation.

As Brazil's security market moves towards advanced technologies for video surveillance and situation management, NICE expects that its security portfolio will see growth in the region in the coming years. NICE's security solutions have already been successfully implemented at major airports and seaports in the United States. There is now a great opportunity to embark on similar projects in Brazil.
