Parisian luxury hotel ensures peace of mind with discreet surveillance

The Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe, a luxury hotel located next to the famous Arc de Triomphe, recently installed unobtrusive Hikvision Digital Technology network cameras that could blend in with interior décor and improve hotel security. The system integrator for the project was Novadis.

“The Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe required something special – high quality camera resolution for a variety of external and lighting environments … and all within a discreet design,” said Nicolas Jdanoff, Sales Manager, Novadis.

The vandal-proof network domes used for the project covers the hotel's main hallways, emergency exits, and interior corridors leading to guests' rooms. The dome must overcome, and thrive, in a variety of challenging differing environments. “Obviously, tremendous resolution is paramount for hotel security … we have to know who is going where,” said Jdanoff.

To accomplish this goal, 4CIF real-time video in H.264 / MPEG4 / MJPEG video compression provides the resolution needed; as does the concurrent 3-axis adjustment ability to track these individuals. Features such as Sony's high-performance 1/3” Sony CCD, provide the required security; while the unobtrusive dome gently blends into the background for the discerning clientele.

However, as with any hotel, there are potential dangers for security equipment at the hotel's indoor areas. It is not uncommon for guests, or unwelcome visitors to vandalize cameras. The vandal proof dome effectively deters such attempts.

The dome is used for both indoor and outdoor surveillance. “Often, solutions of this nature would be forced to utilize a variety of cameras and different camera manufacturers,” said Jdanoff. In this case, though, the D/N camera with super-low illumination allows it to cover both artificially-lighted internal hallways and external dark exits.
