Bosch conforms to new European EMC standard

Bosch conforms to new European EMC standard
By summer 2014, all intrusion products manufactured within the common market must conform to the new version of the European standard EN 50130-4:2011. Two years ahead of schedule, Bosch Security Systems announces that its Blue Line Gen 2 Motion Detectors, Professional Series Intrusion Detectors, ceiling mount detectors DS938Z, DS9360, DS939 and outdoor detector OD850 already fulfill this requirement.

Compliance with this latest version of the standard ensures that these Bosch motion detectors will continue to provide superior false alarm immunity.

EN 50130-4:2011 is an “Electromagnetic Compatibility” (EMC) standard that applies to alarm systems intended for use in and around buildings in commercial, industrial and residential environments. EMC aims to ensure that equipment or systems maintain correct operation when in the presence of electro-magnetic interference (EMI). The range of radiated field frequencies that a device must now be immune to in order to be certified under this standard has been extended. The previous generation of the standard required immunity from frequencies in the range of 80MHz to 2.0 GHz. This latest version increases that range to cover frequencies up to 2.7 GHz. The norm is designed to counter the increase in electromagnetic interference in buildings caused by the proliferation of devices that operate in this new, higher frequency band, such as Wi-Fi and cellular phones.

The Blue Line Gen 2 Motion Detectors deliver a 12 x12 meter wall-to-wall, gap free coverage area. Due to First Step Processing, the detectors are able to differentiate between human and non-human targets, such as pets. The Professional Series Intrusion Detectors feature Sensor Data Fusion (SDF) technology, which can process up to five different sensors before making an alarm decision. This improves their catch performance over traditional motion detectors by 35 percent. The detectors are suited for a range of applications such as warehouses, retail stores, government facilities and large offices. “By making the motion detectors immune against electromagnetic interference from wireless systems, we ensure high reliability and false alarm immunity of our detectors for the benefit of installers and end-customers,” said Gerhard Kugler, Product Marketing Manager at Bosch Security Systems.
