CEM Systems, part of Tyco Security Products, announced that Oyu Tolgoi Copper and Gold mine, Mongolia, has selected CEM management systems to secure premises in the South Gobi region of the country.

The Oyu Tolgoi site is located approximately 550 km south of the capital, Ulaanbaatar, and 80 km north of the Mongolia-China border. Based on discoveries at the site during the past nine years, independently verified estimates indicate that Oyu Tolgoi contains approximately 81 billion pounds of copper and 46 million ounces of gold in measured, indicated and inferred resources. The site is initially being developed as an open-pit mine with facilities being built on site to process and support the daily throughput of 100,000 tonnes of ore. The mine is expected to be ready to begin commercial production ahead of schedule in 2013.

Oyu Tolgoi required a system which would be expandable and flexible enough to use on a site where requirements can vary greatly. CEM management systems, combined with CEM's comprehensive range of industry-leading hardware, represented the high level of flexibility for the client.

“With the wide range of requirements and difficult environment, the Oyu Tolgoi Copper and Gold mine provides a good example of how the CEM management systems, together with CEM hardware, can meet and exceed the access control needs of even the most complex site” said Andrew Fulton, Senior Director of Global Sales, CEM Systems.

Oyu Tolgoi opted to install several CEM management applications including CEM Application Programming Interface. This application allows customers to seamlessly interface with third party systems of their choice, providing unparalleled convenience and flexibility.

To meet the requirement for minimal downtimes on site, CEM's sever was used to create a secondary server which can take over from the main server in the event of system failure. The switch between the two servers is automatic and results in zero data loss, with notification of the event being sent to system users and administrators immediately.
