Demand Grows for Metro Station Security in Asia

Rapid urbanization in Southeast Asia has created a greater need for metro systems to ease traffic congestion. However, public transportation systems, like metros, have increasingly emerged as popular targets for terrorist attacks, making security a high priority.

Asia is home to some of the most extensive, busiest metro systems in the world. Nearly 3.8 billion passengers used the Beijing Subway in 2017, according to the China Association of Metros. The Shanghai Metro came close to matching Beijing with just over 3.5 billion riders — it also has the world’s longest system with 400 miles of track.
