Analog system (CCTV Camera and DVR) has existed around 20 years while the first IP Camera came into being in 1996. Over years developing, IP cameras were accepted by the market more and more but it has still not exceeded Analog system considering market share.
However, in 2014, the solution companies have pushed out their new HD solution one after another. As we know, times of High Definition is coming. IP Cameras with relatively matured technology will lead development of HD market. Today, let’s discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of IP Cameras comparing with the Analog system.
One IP Camera can be treated as a combination of a CCTV Camera and a computer. It can capture the images and transmit the signal through the network directly. Then the video can be monitored by authorized end users under LAN or WAN.
Analog system is made up of the front-end CCTV Camera and the rear-end DVR. The interlaced scanning CMOS/CCD sensors in the CCTV Camera transform the optical signal to analog electrical signal which requires the DVR to deal with and record.
IP Camera with its standalone IP address can hook network directly. In addition, built-in Web server,FTP server,FTP Client,email Client,Alarm management,programmable ability etc. Intelligent functions gather in one IP Camera which makes IP Camera easy to use and install in any places where the IP network interface exists.
Based on these qualities, we can compare the IP Cameras and Analog system in four aspects.
1.Resolution. IP Cameras can reach 1MP, 2MP even higher resolution while analog system can only support 960H, D1, CIF video out.
2.Management and recording. As built-in Web server, IP Cameras can be monitored in any PC. What’s more, the videos from IP Cameras can be recorded by remote PC which makes videos safer .The videos from Analog cameras have to be recorded by DVR only. Even users can use the Client software to copy the videos from DVR through the internet today ,the IP Cameras can be recorded by both PC or NVR(Network Video record) based on users situation or preference.
3.Installation. If a new IP Cameras should be installed, only a network interface is needed. The signal can be transmitted through the network. Nowadays, the coverage rate of network has increased much more than 5 years ago which promotes the development of IP Camera efficiently. In this aspect, the wiring is needed when you add any new analog cameras and even need supporting more channels DVR.
4.Compatibility. Analog cameras can link with any brand DVR while the compatible problem has existed between IP Cameras and NVR. But it is easy to deal with the compatible problem of IP system, choosing PC recording or buying the IP Cameras and NVR from the same supplier are the good methods.
In this HD times, customers are choosing the IP Cameras in new projects more than Analog system. For those installers who are preferred Analog system, they begin to choose the AHD system instead.
