The purpose of case studies give us insight on security products used in real-life applications across different vertical markets. By seeing what is being done out there, we get a better understanding on how different solutions or products can benefit various verticals, and how there are different challenges and demands required for each market.
Below a&s presents the top 10 cases studies from 2016 on asmag.com, based on click rate.
To qualify for the top 10, all case studies must have been uploaded to the asmag.com database between January and December 2016.
From our data collection, we saw a lot of requirements for video solutions, be it surveillance cameras, software or more advanced transmission technologies to help users protect and keep an eye on the specified area, The verticals that made 2016's ranking were mostly for outdoor applications, including tunnels, cities, and stadiums.

1. UK smart city initiative supported by Siklu millimeter wave technology
has been selected to provide the wireless part of a hybrid wireless connectivity network for Bradford City in the UK as part of an extensive smart city project to integrate multiple information and communication technologies city-wide. The project includes providing the wireless connectivity for more than 300 surveillance cameras and two-dozen traffic management devices.
In areas where the 5GHz noise is high, the city uses the palm sized EH-600 mmW (millimeter-wave) radio from Siklu, which operates in the interference-free 60GHz frequency band. Designed for installation at street level, the EH-600 mmW radio provides long-term gigabit capacity in a small unobtrusive size.
2. Grundig helps secure construction sites along the $1.25 Eurasia tunnel
The Eurasia Tunnel ranks amongst the world’s most significant engineering pr
ojects. Costing 1.25 billion US Dollars, the Eurasia tunnel connects the European and Asian sides of Istanbul under the Bosphorus Strait, a channel linking the Aegean and Black Seas.
Integral Kurumsal Teknoloji Cozumleri (Integral) provides YM&SK JV with specialist video surveillance and security systems in its five main construction locations along the tunnel’s path. It also provides monitoring of the Tunnel Boring Machine, TBM, which has been specifically designed and manufactured for this project. Integral has used Grundig IP cameras to provide 24/7 surveillance of the perimeter of the five construction areas. These cover feeder roads, which are being widened at both ends; the construction of a new underpass on the European side; overpasses and a bridge on the Asian side; and toll areas at both ends.

5. VIVOTEK protects Petra, one of the wonders of the world with IP surveillance
An ancient historical and archeological city in southern Jordan, Petra is famous for its rock-cut architecture and complex water management system. Today, as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Petra has thrived again as a tourist destination described by Smithsonian Magazine as one of the “28 Places to See Before You Die.”
Under the leadership of managing director, Hamzeh Labadi, Luminus set about looking for surveillance systems that were powerful enough to provide protection across the great site, durable enough to withstand the elements, and discrete enough to blend into the beautiful ancient city of Petra.
VIVOTEK, the total IP surveillance provider, was chosen to protect this ancient city.
6. Secure access for Mont Blanc Tunnel staff with Nedap and Selesta
The authorities responsible for the Mont Blanc Tunnel were in need of a solution that could grant all authorized staff and their vehicles secure access to restricted areas of the tunnel. An important requirement for the access control system, beside the fact that it had to be highly secure, was that it had to be convenient for staff, without the need to stop at the toll gates.
At both the Italian and French side of the Mont Blanc Tunnel, Nedap's TRANSIT readers were installed. This long-range reader identifies vehicles and its drivers up to 10 meters. Even in the most challenging circumstances, such as the rugged environment at a road tunnel, TRANSIT offers highly reliable access to authorized staff and vehicles only.
7. Dallmeier multifocal sensor system Panomera in the Sunderland Stadium of Light
The "Stadium of Light" is the home stadium of Sunderland AFC and has a capacity of about 49,000 spectators. The stadium was built in 1997 on land previously occupied by the largest coal mine in Great Britain, the Monkwearmouth colliery. Even today, an enormous Davy lamp stands in front of the stadium, and the name itself, "Stadium of Light", is a reference to the mineworkers' safety lamps.
Dallmeier was responsible for an upgrade of the existing video surveillance system at the Stadium of Light which was originally installed in 1997. The modernization of the system originated in the desire of high definition technology for inside bowl coverage to improve image quality, especially in the away fans section.
8. 3VR VMS and HVR appliances helps Movado Group protect luxury timepieces
Movado's existing security solution included analog cameras and a video
recording system that was being phased out by the vendor so replacement units were no longer available. Movado vice president of loss prevention, Bob Alexander was interested in upgrading to new IP cameras and a more user-friendly video recording solution.
Under the guidance of Tyco's National Account Manager and Applications team, Movado brought in two new vendor solutions to test in the company's beta lab and at one of their local retail stores. After two months of testing, Alexander selected
3VR's VisionPoint VMS and HVR appliances based on ease of use, functionality and customer support from 3VR engineering staff and Tyco Applications.
9. Curaçao Airport inaugurates Vision-Box border control solution

10. Weber School District creates solution for school safe
ty with Axis network cameras
Searching for a centralized video solution across its 45-plus schools and utility buildings, the Weber School District in Utah needed a way to monitor its mix of elementary, junior high and high schools according to each campus' needs. With arbitrary analog equipment used across the board, the District leaned on the IT Department to determine a best-fit platform that could be used countywide.
