Sony's “Exmor” CMOS sensor enables supreme HD image quality and the biggest wide dynamic range (Wide-D) level in the industry

These days, the growth of High-Definition (HD) in the video security industry is remarkable as well as in consumer electronic industry such as camcorders
and televisions.

To address the demand for of higher esolution video quality in the CCTV security industry, Sony developed new improved CMOS sensor using its image quality knowledge accumulated in CCDs. The result is a CMOS sensor with an entirely new structure, the "Exmor" CMOS sensor.

The newly developed “Exmor” CMOS sensor enables Sony's HD video security camera to achieve supreme HD image quality with significant low noise, and the biggest wide dynamic range (Wide-D) level in the industry. Most of Sony’s HD video security cameras are equipped with the “Exmor” CMOS sensor.

In the surveillance industry, users are looking for cameras with better visibility.Faces and image details previously lost in silhouette can now be clearly identifiedwith the V series cameras, giving excellent forensic grade image quality. In the case of night time and outdoor surveillance monitoring, the Sony eXcellent Dynamic Noise Reduction (XDNR) selectively uses 2D and 3D noise reduction methods to provide clear images for both moving objects and still portions of the image –minimizing unwanted motion-blur.

View-DR is Sony’s latest technology to produce images with an extremely wide dynamic range. View-DR is a combination of Sony’s full-capture Wide-D technologies, the high-speed “Exmor” CMOS sensor, and Visibility Enhancer (VE) technology. The fullcapture Wide-D technology used in View-DR uses an electronic shutter to capture multiple images and reproduce each frame. One image is taken using a standard exposure time and either one or three images are taken using very short exposure times, depending on the camera type. With the newly developed View-DR algorithm, all of the electrons converted from the captured light are fully used by the imager, which is quite different from DynaView and some other Wide-D technologies in the industry which discard approximately half of these electrons. As a result, View-DR nearly doubles the sensitivity that is offered by conventional Wide-D technologies.

Sony, with the launch of more than 30 HD video security cameras, supports the industry’s move from standard definition to high definition. Sony continues to further develop innovative security solutions that fit a broad range of budgets and security requirements, and offer market-leading solutions across the entire security infrastructure, bringing the benefits of HD to entry-level markets
