STid, French RFID manufacturer and developer of innovative, high added-value solutions, has won a contract with the CNES (French Space Agency) for the supply of RFID readers for high-security access control.

The CNES, a major player in European Space Research, chose STid from among some of the biggest international manufacturers to support the technological migration of its RFID access control readers. More than 1400 STid RFID readers will be fitted across CNES sites, including at the Paris Head Office and the CNES Guiana Space Centre, the European Spaceport, launch site of the Ariane, Soyouz and Véga rockets.

The STid range stood out from the competition thanks to our technological openness, highly secure features and the compatibility of our products with existing infrastructures. The STid range of high-security SIS (Secure Identification System) readers thus meets the security requirements of the most demanding sectors and provides complete security from the badge to the management system, regardless of the kind of local processing unit used.

“The technical solution proposed by STid met our demanding specifications perfectly. Moreover, STid had paid particular attention to managing the security level across all connections and at all stages of the process. Finally, an in-depth feasibility study had been carried out to ensure that their products could interface with the existing systems,” said Bruno Mogicato, CNES Security Systems Expert.

“Signing this contract has been a collective success. The main challenge was to provide a technical solution to replace older generations of readers with more secure DESFire EV1 technologies, without undermining the whole CNES security structure,” explained Pierre-Antoine Larrera de Morel, STid Sales Manager.
