Both temperature measurement range and temperature measurement accuracy are very important performance parameters of infrared detectors, which directly affect its effect in various applications. Below will introduce the temperature measurement range and temperature measurement accuracy of infrared detectors in detail, as well as other key performance parameters, to help integrators better understand and choose infrared detectors.

NETD: A Key Metric for Measuring the Sensitivity of Infrared Detectors
NETD (Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference) is an objective indicator of infrared detector sensitivity. Smaller NETD of the infrared detector will get higher thermal sensitivity, and higher image quality of the output infrared image. Usually when selecting an infrared thermal detector, the smaller temperature difference between the target and the background, the higher thermal sensitivity of the detector will be required.

In practical applications, we hope that the infrared detector can detect the smallest possible temperature difference, because this can improve its ability to identify the target. For example, in security monitoring, the small temperature difference between the human body and the background need to be accurately detected, so as to improve the detection accuracy of the human body. Therefore, NETD is an important index to measure the performance of infrared detectors.

Temperature Measurement Range & Accuracy
Both temperature measurement range and temperature measurement accuracy of the infrared core are important performance parameters. Integrators can choose appropriate temperature measurement accuracy and range according to the temperature range of measured objects.

General industrial-grade infrared camera module supports temperature ranges of -20°C-150°C and -20°C-550°C, and the temperature measurement accuracy is ±2°C or 2% (whichever is greater). This infrared camera core is suitable for measuring the temperature of machinery and equipment in an industrial environment to monitor its working status and prevent failures.

The temperature measurement range of infrared camera core for human body temperature measurement is 32-42°C, and the accuracy is ±0.5°C. This kind of thermal imaging module is suitable for the fields of medical health and public health, and can be used to measure the temperature of human body for disease prevention and diagnosis.

Frame Frequency
Frame rate is the number of frames of a complete image produced by an infrared camera per second. It affects the observation effect and measurement accuracy of infrared detectors. If the moving speed of the measured object is fast or the temperature changes rapidly, an infrared detector with a higher frame rate should be selected. Otherwise it will affect the measurement accuracy and observation effect. For example, in an outdoor observation scene, if the target moves fast, you need to choose an infrared camera detector with a high frame rate to capture clear infrared images.
