Two Taiwanese lock-and-key companies took center stage on Day 1 of Secutech, highlighting that they embrace technology trends of the present and future, as the annual security trade show kicked off at in Taipei.
Susan Shih, General Manager at Duen Yih Metal Industrial, said the company, founded in 1973, started supplying mechanical components to tech-focused access control solutions providers 20 years ago, bridging the gap between traditional lock-and-key expertise and the needs of integrators.
Under its Dandy Locks brand, Shih said the company “is striving to create space for technology that can be used in many different scenarios.”
Dandy focuses on residential developers and hotel chains in the US, where it has longstanding relationships with integrators.
“The trends that are most relevant to us right now are the increasing information security demands and users favoring convenient solutions,” Shih said, adding that this includes access systems that integrate biometrics as well as traditional keys.
Among the new products presented by Duen Yih are access control solutions equipped with a new generation of palm readers.
However, market uncertainty due to import tariffs in the US are a concern, Shi said. The main problem is uncertainty over whether tariffs will stay in place long term, she explained, adding that this affects the whole industry—producers around the world as well as integrators in the US.
Service-first at SCS
Meanwhile at the Yuan-Hsun Electronic booth, R&D Department Project Manager Rock Chung highlighted that the access control products, which the company sells under its SCS brand, can be operated remotely via the cloud, but maintain all the traditional features that the company has been known for over several decades, as well as features introduced over the years.
In terms of R&D, Yuan-Hsun’s focus is on simplifying the interface design, Chung said, adding that his company is seeking to take the lead in this regard, even though many of its customers prefer the user interfaces they’re used to.
“What really sets our company apart in a crowded market, however, is the service we offer,” Chung said, adding that Yuan-Hsun has been working with a majority of its partners—many among them system integrators in the US and Europe—for decades.
Issues such as US import tariffs are not so central for Yuan-Hsun, Chung said, adding that the company has been benefitting from customer preferences shifting away from Chinese products ever since COVID-19.
