The camera is the ultimate sensor in the IOT and usage of video is exploding. At secutech 2016, Intel showcases its vision for “video” in the IOT, some of the key issues faced, and Intel’s latest technologies to address this opportunity.

First, Intel pointed out the conventional problems right now with the video surveillance system implementation. The problems include the computationally heavy analytics, which run in smart cameras.

It caused the smart cameras with little edge device intelligence. No-optimized video and video analytics processing result in the lack of standardized video meta data format. The software integration remains complex and pricy.

Intel further provides their smart video solutions in multiple applications, ranging from transportation, retail business intelligence, machine vision, smart building, to smart home.

In transportation, Dahua is using Intel’s distributed analytics for processing 1.5 million vehicles daily with the ability to detect and identify license plates and understand traffic density in real time.

With embedded sensors, GE’s Current’s Evolve IQ LED fixtures can see, hear, and feel, making them a connected hub of data collection that enables endless applications.
