Montreal, Canada, one of the largest cities in North America, initiated the MPM-10 (Montréal Pneumatic Material 2010) project in 2006. The project involves a major upgrade of the Montreal Metro subway, with new trains set to go into service in 2014. A total of 52 trains and 468 cars are included in the project. In order to enhance security and safety on moving trains, each train is equipped with both front-facing and rear-facing IP cameras.

System DescriptionThe system integrator chose Moxa’s EN 50155 compliant VPort 16-M12 IP camera as the rear-facing camera for the MPM-10 trains. The VPort 16-M12’s built-in CCD sensor provides good image quality in low illumination environments, and the metal housing and glass lens cover are fire and corrosion resistant. In addition, Moxa’s innovative CBR Pro function provides accurate bit rate control to minimize packet loss, helping ensure good image quality when bandwidth is limited.
