Identive Group, a provider of solutions and services for the identification, security and RFID industries, today announced that the Hong Kong Police Force will deploy smart card readers based on Identive’s technology to comply with new security policies and protect confidential information. Identive’s local partner AMCL HK has been awarded a tender to supply 12,500 readers utilizing Identive’s smart card reader technology, to be delivered in the first quarter of 2013.
To prevent unauthorized access and abuse of confidential information from its networks, the Hong Kong Police Force is implementing new IT policies that include the use of smart card-based identification credentials to authenticate its employees. This will provide higher security than the use of a password alone and also make it possible to track what information has been accessed and by whom. Identive designed and supplied the chipsets for the readers to accommodate both contact and contactless smart cards as well as secure access modules (SAM).
“Identive is a trusted supplier of smart card reader technology for government applications around the world, based on many years’ experience providing both standard and customized solutions to match each customer’s needs. The Hong Kong Police Force selected our reader technology because it addresses their requirements for high security and performance, flexibility to work with various operating systems, and rapid availability. The ability to upgrade the firmware after deployment also ensures the readers’ long-term viability even as technology and IT policies evolve. By using Identive’s reader technology to authenticate their smart ID cards, Hong Kong’s police force now can protect the information on their networks more effectively without compromising convenience,” said Dr. Manfred Mueller, COO of Identification Products for Identive Group.
Identive offers a wide range of standards-based smart card readers and chipsets for a variety of government and consumer applications, including electronic ID, social security and eGovernment as well as loyalty programs, e-Couponing, e-Banking, online shopping and gaming activities.
